The approach: Brokeoff Mountain Trail near Lassen’s southwest entrance
Summit finish: Brokeoff Mountain’s summit.
Wander through forest and meadows to an old volcanic summit looking back toward Lassen Peak. NPS describes a demanding 7.4-mile return hike from 6,635 feet to the 9,235-foot summit. It offers a greener approach than Lassen’s shorter, barer ascent. Seasonal snow can persist well into summer.
Plan for a full strenuous outing and maintain a steady effort as the terrain opens up.
