A few promises for the trail, from one wanderer to another.
- Live to quest another day. A summit can wait. Turn around when the day calls for it—you still have a story worth telling.
- Old trails hold new stories. Revisit a favorite peak, bring a friend, or wander at your own pace. There’s no need to rush into a harder chapter.
- Learn your frostcraft. Before tackling consequential snow terrain, take a snow-mountaineering course and practice using an ice axe and crampons.
- Gather a well-trained party. Before independent glacier climbs, seek instruction in glacier travel and crevasse rescue. A shiny keepsake can’t teach rope skills.
- The mountain sets the terms. Snow, ice, smoke, heat, wind, and rockfall can change the adventure. Check current conditions and let good judgment lead the way.
