Meet the mountain
The approach: Armstrong Pass and Tahoe Rim Trail to the designated Freel Peak spur
Summit finish: Freel Peak’s summit.
Tahoe’s highest peak makes a grand perch above a familiar mountain playground. Approach through Armstrong Pass and use the designated summit spur off the Tahoe Rim Trail. The trail steward documents erosion and rehabilitation needs, so stay on the established route and check current conditions. Horse Meadows Road access is seasonal; this entry does not promise a particular trailhead driving condition or round-trip distance.
Allow for altitude and check the chosen approach on a current map.
