Meet the mountain

The approach: Mount Pilchuck Trail 700 from the Mount Pilchuck trailhead

Summit finish: The summit lookout area, reached over the rocky finish.

A historic lookout makes the summit a tangible reward after a rocky Cascade climb. WTA lists 5.4 miles round trip and 2,300 feet of gain. Expect uneven rock and an exposed finish near the lookout. Seasonal snow and the approach road can change the outing substantially; check the park’s latest information.

Plan for the rocky finish and descent, not just the uphill distance.

The lookout guestbook

A cloud signed the guestbook “lovely view, could use more clouds.” It left a second review under a different name. Both were written in suspiciously damp handwriting.
