First Footsteps
Sentinel Dome
A short wander from Glacier Point Road to a dome with a whole lot of Yosemite to show you.

Meet the mountain
The approach: Sentinel Dome Trail from the Sentinel Dome / Taft Point trailhead
Summit finish: Sentinel Dome’s open granite top.
A short Yosemite summit with a sweeping granite-country panorama. NPS lists two miles round trip and 400 feet of gain, including the final granite scramble. This rating assumes a dry approach. Taft Point is a separate destination; check seasonal Glacier Point Road access and avoid exposed domes during storms.
Take the granite finish at a pace everyone is comfortable with.

The granite night watch
The dome appointed itself night watchman, then discovered it could not turn its head. It solved this by declaring everything it could not see “probably fine” and asking the stars for a second opinion.
