Meet the mountain

The approach: Mount Rose summit trail from the Highway 431 pass

Summit finish: The mountain summit, beyond the highway pass and waterfall.

A Carson Range summit with Tahoe on one side and the desert on the other. Start at the Mount Rose trailhead at the highway pass and continue beyond the waterfall to the steep upper climb. Published route distances differ, so confirm your full itinerary on a current map. Highway access does not remove the need to plan for wind, cold, snow, and the return hike.

Prepare for the exposed upper mountain and keep the road pass distinct from the summit.

The panorama invoice

The horizon once sent this peak a bill for excessive viewing. Rose returned it marked “please itemize.” The horizon is still counting individual trees.
