The approach: Rocky Canyon use-trail approach and upper talus

Summit finish: Pyramid Peak’s rocky summit.

The Crystal Range’s rocky skyline prize offers a different kind of Tahoe day from a maintained summit trail. The Rocky Canyon approach involves use trails, route finding, and Class 2 talus. The linked Sierra Peaks Section account documents the terrain, but is historical; confirm current access and parking independently. Do not confuse the Rocky Canyon approach with a route beginning at Pyramid Creek trailhead.

Prepare for navigation and movement on talus rather than judging the outing by fitness alone.

The geometry exam

A mountain turned in a triangle for its final geometry project. The teacher asked to see its work. It gestured at every rock and said this might take a while.
